Manhattan: Each year in New York City, hundreds of young people transition out of the child welfare system and into adulthood a moment when their needs are most significant, yet resources are limited. Supporting youth entering adulthood is a universal value, but it’s even more critical for those who have experienced foster care. Often, these individuals experience multiple overlapping traumas, and for them to transition into adulthood effectively, it is essential that supportive services and programming be available to facilitate healing and growth.
Maspeth: Voicer Bob Cavaliere has some valid points. There are people who are professional squatters. They know exactly how to live rent-free. My experience occurred pre-pandemic. A guy used a story that he was recently divorced and wanted to be close to his son. Nothing was further from the truth. He paid rent for a few months, then brought in another renter without my knowledge. He had nightly drinking parties and card games that kept the upstairs tenants awake most nights.
Long Island City: We are in the middle of a political pissing contest. The Republicans do not want to work with each other, and the delays are handcuffing Democrats. This is an antiquated ideology. The last administration does not deserve the respect of being mentioned by name; I refer to it as the failed coup.
Commack, L.I.: As a child survivor of the Holocaust, I found Voicer Ron Goldman’s comments comparing Mayor de Blasio’s vaccination mandates to Nazi Germany disgraceful. Having to provide proof of being vaccinated to gyms, eateries and entertainment events is a far cry from being forced to wear a yellow Star of David with the word “Jew” written on it in public as a form of humiliation, discrimination and isolation.
