Thailand enjoyed a dominant start as it hosted its first World Para Powerlifting World Cup in Bangkok, securing two golds, two silvers and two bronzes in the opening four men s events.
Thailand’s Beijing 2008 Paralympic bronze medallist Narong Kasanun was unable to live up to home expectations in the under-59 kilograms, being unsuccessful on all three lifts.
But gold went to fellow Thai lifter Amomtep Pongsao, who lifted 153kg.
That was the second gold for the host nation following Boonyang Butprom’s victory in the under-49kg category, with fellow countryman Nopphakhun Ngaopatcha taking silver.
Kazakhstan’s Stanislav Shakiyev beat two home lifters to the men’s under-54kg title with an outstanding third round effort of 160kg.
