Within the scope of the European Green Deal, the European Commission called for research and innovation projects that support the transition to a zero-carbon economy. Brussels Airport as project leader, together with 21 partners, submitted an ambitious plan with concrete projects to help the industry accelerate the sustainable transition. From the 16 proposals the Commission received it selected Brussels Airport’s Stargate plan, which, after a final round of procedures, will be granted 24.8 million euros of funding.
Following the European Commission’s call to submit projects aimed at sustainable transportation within the scope of the EU Green Deal, Brussels Airport Company at the end of 2020 took the initiative to bring together 21 partners who strive to make a considerable contribution to the climate goals in the short term. €4million project uses cutting edge technology to enhance habitats of key fish species
A cross-Channel partnership will use innovative underwater acoustic tracking technology to identify the environmental conditions a range of important marine species need in order to thrive.
The €4million FISH INTEL project, supported by €2.8million from the European Regional Development Fund via the Interreg France (Channel) England programme, will focus on a series of sites along the coastlines of southern England, northern France and Belgium.
Through a combination of fish tracking and underwater video surveys, the project will establish a comprehensive picture of fish movements and the habitats individual species prefer.
New Insights into Ancient Gatekeeper Protein Complex

Gatekeeper protein complexes at the outer boundaries of cells make life possible by regulating the passage of key molecules such as nutrients into and out of the cell.
Scientists in Belgium and the Czech Republic have revealed new structural and functional insights on an ancient, evolutionarily conserved protein complex that makes it possible for cells to wrap their membranous arms around and bring essential biomolecules into the cell a process called endocytosis. The structure and function of cells with nuclei (eukaryotic cells) depend on endocytosis for the continuous exchange of biomolecules through membranes.
