Three of those accused in the Nelson Mandela funeral scandal believe the case is being used to settle political scores.
The trio - former Eastern Cape health MEC Sindiswa Gomba, former Buffalo City mayor Zukiswa Ncitha and former council speaker Luleka Simon-Ndzele - say they want their day in court to clear their names.
Following yet another postponement of their case this week, the three told City Press from the steps of the East London Magistrates Court that they had been waiting for seven years to take the stand and put forward their side of the story, but the state was never ready to start with trial proceedings. They said the case had demonised them in society and was frustrating them personally and politically.

The fraud and corruption case against former Eastern Cape Health MEC Sindiswa Gomba and 11 others has been postponed to July 28.

They made another court appearance on Tuesday on a range of charges that include fraud, corruption and money laundering, linked to the Nelson Mandela funeral scandal.
Meanwhile, the lawyers representing some of the accused have expressed dissatisfaction with the State s handling of the case.
The attorneys, Mark Frederiks and Andre Schoombee, say after seven years, the State still does not have a final charge sheet.

The Eastern Cape’s former Health MEC Sindiswa Gomba along with 14 other people are expected to make a return to the East London Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 11 May 2021, for fraud and corruption charges to the tune of R10 million, meant for the funeral of former president Nelson Mandela.
Gomba, National Council of Provinces (NCOP) member Zukiswa Ncita, African National Congress (ANC) regional chairperson Phumlani Mkolo, former Buffalo City speaker Luleka Simon Ndzele, are among the suspects.

Gomba, Phumlani Mkolo, Zukiswa Veronica Ncitha, Themba Tinta, Luleka Simon-Ndzele, Tembelani Prideaux Sali, Ondela Vatile Mahlangu, Viwe Vazi, Zintle Nkuhlu (a trustee of the Lilly Rose Trust), Nosiphiwo Mati, Dean William Fanoe and Nqaba Ludidi all had their bail extended during the court appearance.
Former Eastern Cape health MEC Sindiswa Gomba has lambasted delays in the Nelson Mandela funeral corruption case saying it is justice delayed.
Gomba and 11 other accused appeared before the East London Regional Court on Tuesday on charges of corruption, money laundering, fraud and contravention of the Municipal Finance Management Act.
The matter was remanded to July 28, which Gomba views as further delays because she wants a chance to take the witness stand and clear her name.
