University removes professor from director post

University removes professor from director post Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA Mangalore University on Monday removed M. Jayashankar, a Professor of Microbiology, from his office as the Director of the College Development Council (CDC) of the university. He was replaced by V. Ravindrachary, a Professor of Physics, who has, earlier, served as the Registrar (Evaluation) of the university. Prof. Jayashankar landed in controversy after he complained to the police that a conman, Prasad Attavar, cheated him of ₹17 lakh which he had paid to Attavar for getting the post of the Vice-Chancellor of Raichur University. In addition, he had given Attavar three blank cheques as he had promised him of getting the post. The city police, who registered a case in this connection, arrested Attavar last week.

Panel inquiry sought into bribe for V-C post case

It is a serious issue that needs discussion: Syndicate member With pressure mounting on Mangalore University to take the matter of a professor “bribing” a conman to get the post of a vice-chancellor, another Syndicate member, Vivekananda Paniyala, has said that it is a serious issue which needs to be deliberated upon in a special meeting of the Syndicate, which is the highest decision-making body of the university. He has also sought an inquiry into the case by a committee to be headed by a retired High Court judge. Professor in Microbiology on the university campus, M. Jayashankar, who is also the Director of the College Development Council of the university, complained to the police last week that he had been cheated of ₹17 lakh by Prasad Attavar who had promised him the post of the vice-chancellor of Raichur University.
