his words weren t too bad. we heard some very positive things, him stating that islam is one of the great faiths of the world, something that he hadn t said before, and something that his advisers would refuse to even admit. so we saw a change in tone but we really need to see a change in policy. we need to see concrete actions, like not defending in court the muslim ban, executive orders, any racial and religious profiling at the borders, speaking out against the rising tide of islamaphobia and hate incidents targeting american muslims. if we see this kind of more positive rhetoric backed up by concrete actions, then we can say that there are some changes being made. until then it s just talk. if you d all stay with me we ll get in a break again. you re looking at live images out of jerusalem, where it is
president trump making history today. he just wrapped up a visit to jerusalem s western wall, the first sitting president to make that visit. it is a moment with political and religious significance, and it comes as the president faces a cloud of controversy over the russia investigation back here at home. let s bring in a democratic congressman from pennsylvania. thank you very much for being here. let me just get your take overall on the president s visit to the western wall following the language that he chose to use and notably what he chose not to say while he was in saudi arabia. are you hopeful that this is a president that has turned the page especially when it comes to foreign policy, because you ve been vocal in terms of your criticism of him? no, i m really not. and i say that not out of any sense of partisanship, but real concern that this president s completely out of his league when it comes to foreign policy.
not taking sides in this. president trump arrived this morning to great fanfare with the israeli prime minister hailing his visit as truly historic. it is unprecedented that a u.s. president s first trip abroad includes a visit to israel. prime minister netanyahu will not accompany president trump on this hour s visit to the western wall, that is again because the united states does not want to enflame tension over this disputed territory. in fact, topping the president s agenda is reviving the israeli/palestinian peace process, a deal he calls the ultimate deal. sara murray is traveling with the president and joins us from jerusalem. an israeli newspaper published yesterday quote president trump as saying i think we have a very, very good chance of making a deal. the president appears very optimistic on this trip. reporter: that s right, he does feel very optimistic about this. he feels like the situation is
palestinian side a real belief a peace deal is possible but neither side wants to be blamed by very unpredictable president, and then feel his wrath potentially if president trump thinks the israelis are the ones who are to blame or the palestinians are the ones to blame, and they would come under the wrath of president trump. so both sides want to make the steps that make it seem at least that they are willing to make the bigger or take the bigger steps for peace, but i don t know that when push comes to shove, if it comes, a deal is put on the table, that s a whole different ball game. and we re looking at live pictures of the president s motorcade as they have departed that part of the old city in jerusalem after that historic visit to the west wall. david, remember what this president said earlier this year, when asked about okay, you re going to broker a deal, how are you going to do it? i m looking at two-state and one-state and i like the one that both parties like and he we
