SCUFFLES broke out at the Suva market when Suva City Council (SCC) staff and police tried to move vendors selling their produce on the roadside, as published in The Fiji Times of June 16, 1984.
Police were called in as about 600 vendors threatened council staff who tried to move them into what used to be a private car park.
The SCC staff sought the help of police but the vendors were adamant about not moving until they were given specific spots at the market complex to sell from.
