Corporator seeks steps for early vaccination of all employees
Tributes were paid to the workers and employees of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), who lost their lives to the COVID-19, on the 91st day of the relay hunger strike, being organised under the aegis of the Visakha Ukku Parirakshana Porata Committee at the Steel Plant arch here on Thursday.
The workers and union leaders of the Steel Melting Shop (SMS) - 1 of the VSP participated in the relay hunger strike on Thursday. The 78th Ward Corporator B. Ganga Rao described SMS as a vital component of the VSP. It was unfortunate that the maximum number of COVID-19 victims in the VSP were in the 18 to 45 years age group, he said and demanded that the steel plant management and the State government take measures for early vaccination of the employees.

The relay hunger strikes launched by the Visakha Ukku Parirakshana Porata Committee in protest against the privatisation of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant(VSP) entered the 80th day on Sunday.
Union representatives from LMMM, WRM, RS&RS departments participated in the strike.
Addressing the gathering, committee convener J. Ayodhya Ram alleged that the ‘mindless decisions’ of the Centre, at a time when the nation was reeling under the coronavirus pandemic, was causing untold hardships to the people.

A cycle rally, led by Bunga Sanjay Madiga, founder-president of Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS), reached the venue of the Steel Plant Arch at Kurmannapalem, where the employees of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) have been continuing their relay hunger strike for the past 73 days, opposing its privatisation, on Sunday.
Mr. Sanjay, along with 30 supporters, started the cycle rally from Tummalapalli Kala Kshetram in Vijayawada on April 17 and came through Hanuman Junction, Eluru, Tadepalligudem, Tanuku, Ravulapalem, Mandapeta, Ramachandrapuram, Kakinada, Pithapuram, Kattipudi, Tuni, Payakaraopeta, Yelamanchili and Anakapalle.

Visakha Ukku Porata Committee leader J. Simhachalam has said that at a time when the COVID-19 crisis is creating havoc in the country, the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) is rendering yeomen service to the nation by sending 100 tonnes of medical oxygen to Maharashtra and other States.
He was addressing the workers, who participated in the 67th day of the relay hunger strikes, being organised by steel workers, under the aegis of Visakha Ukku Parirakshana Porata Committee, opposing the decision of the Centre to privatise the VSP, at the Steel Plant arch, near Kurmannapalem, here on Monday.
