Trident has announced Bent Viscaal will drive for the team for the remainder of the 2021 Formula 2 season.
Initially on a one-race deal with the team, Viscaal performed solidly in the season-opening Bahrain weekend as he narrowly missed out on points finishes in all three races.
The 21-year-old impressed Trident during the mid-season test in Barcelona over the weekend, ending the final day eighth fastest overall, 0.8s off the pace set by Felipe Drugovich.
The Dutchman spent two seasons in Formula 3 before making the move up to F2, securing his maiden win at Silverstone in the sprint race last year.
Reflecting on the announcement, Viscaal said: I’m very happy to join Trident for the rest of the season. It will be an absolute incredible challenge. I’m looking forward to doing it with the great Trident team.

Formula 2’s season opener and its pre-season test both took place in Bahrain, but looked very different when it came to who set the pace. Formula Scout delves into the data from the first three races of 2021
A combination of night and day races, as well as safety cars, virtual safety car periods and winds kicking up lots of sand meant there was a huge variety of conditions that Formula 2 drivers faced in last month’s season opener on Bahrain’s highly abrasive asphalt, and it’s probably the closest we’re going to get to seeing the pecking order of the teams until the second half of July when the championship visits Silverstone.
