Dallas Black Dance Theatre s 2021 Spring Celebration

The virtual performance will feature guest artist, Alicia Graf Mack, the Dean and Director of Dance at the Juilliard School. Mack was a former principal dancer at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the Dance Theatre of Harlem during her esteemed career. Alicia Graf Mack will perform a sentimental solo titled, Don’t Stop, from a New York City rooftop during the Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s Spring Celebration. During the virtual Spring Celebration, Claude Alexander III, a DBDT veteran dancer and rehearsal assistant will feature one of his pieces. He will take the audience on an emotional journey through the process of forgiveness and unconditional love. Claude Alexander III will illustrate this adventure in his full company work titled, A Tender Pardon.

Artistic Director Scott Uddenberg will lead both groups and professional soloists in this positive concert experience, featuring music that reflects joy, peace, and the beauty and rebirth of spring.

Transforming Crisis: Virtual Artist-in-Residence Events with Miwa Matreyek at UMass Amherst

April 1, 2021 Miwa Matreyek, “Infinitely Yours” In April, the “Transforming Crisis” series will host three public virtual events, featuring Fine Arts Center artist-in-residence, Miwa Matreyek. The series a semester-long series hosted in collaboration with UMass Fine Arts Center (FAC), the Master of Fine Arts for Poets and Writers (MFA) and the School of Earth and Sustainability (SES). It is devoted to illuminating ecological crises and addressing climate injustice. With support from the Chancellor s Sustainability Advisory Committee, the series includes performances, readings and discussions with prominent scholars, scientists and artists, along with students and community members about pressing environmental issues, promising solutions and the power of creative arts to inspire collective action.
