More than 1,100 municipalities will hold elections on Nov. 7, and a breakthrough in representation of women that took place in 2017 looks likely to continue this year.
Throughout the province, women are stepping up. Independent MNA Catherine Fournier is a candidate for mayor of Longueuil. City councillor Virginie Proulx is running for mayor of Rimouski. In Gatineau, two women Maude Marquis-Bissonnette and France Bélisle are seeking the top job. In Magog, two more women, city councillors Nathalie Bélanger and Nathalie Pelletier, are also running for mayor.
