The stretch of U.S. 250 between Route 6 and Route 151 on Afton Mountain has been closed since May 3, and there is no date for when it will be reopened.

Truck drivers in Virginia are being stressed even further and having to make longer hauls amid the Colonial Pipeline gas shortage that has highlighted the growing truck driver shortage that parallels it.
The truck driver shortage has been a concern amid gas being needed to be transported further distances after the Colonial Pipeline hack has sent people the gas pumps in droves.
According to the Virginia Truckers Association, Virginia s tanker drivers are having to go all the way to Greensboro, North Carolina, to one of the main terminals on the pipeline that is still producing gas. Other areas on the pipeline closer to and within Virginia are not seeing outputs needed to supply the region.

RICHMOND, Va. As the shutdown of a major fuel pipeline entered into its fifth day, companies and government officials took steps to stave off potential fuel shortages, although no widespread disruptions of fuel supplies were reported Tuesday morning.

âIn Virginia, we have one source really for our petroleum products and thatâs the Colonial Pipeline, Mike O Connor, with the Virginia Petroleum and Convenience Marketers, said. Weâre not sure when thatâs going to re-open and consequently thatâs creating the short-term supply problem and distribution problem we are seeing today.â

A day after Colonial Pipeline said there was light at the end of the tunnel for the line’s closure due to a cyberattack, the impact of the shutdown on the ground is being felt.
Specifically, there are widespread reports of stations running out of gasoline, along with social media pictures of both lines of cars seeking to buy gasoline and bags covering fuel pumps to drive home the point that they’re out of fuel.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - While a portion of U.S. 250 remains closed due to the rockslide, Virginia Department of Transportation is asking for people to follow all detours and use precaution on Route 6.
VDOT says trucks are not allowed on Route 6 and that local and state police are ticketing trucks that continue to use the route.
Lou Hatter with VDOT says they know it may add some time to the trip, but its the safest way to do it.
