On Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 3:40 p.m., Virginia State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash in the eastbound lanes of I-66 near the 74 mile marker. The truck that caused the crash fled the scene. The truck had been reported stolen out of Falls Church, VA., with the driver being later identified as Darell T. Caldwell, 30, of Brandywine, MD.
Two felony charges of malicious wounding and felony hit-and-run as well as one misdemeanor reckless driving charge from the incident stemming from a March incident involving Del. Matt Fariss, R-Campbell, were certified to a grand jury following a preliminary hearing in Campbell General District Court, according to the specially-appointed prosecutor.
