shepard: and the american born terrorist, now dead, al-aliwalki has an allure and was nice, plight and helpful to everyone, a quote from an official at a mosque in virginia where al-aliwalki was a relidgous leader before he reportedly told leaders of the mosque he planned to leave the united states after the attacks of 9/11 and it was at that virginia mosque where some 9/11 hijackers had once worshiped. as al-aliwalki led prayers. and now, live outside that mosque in falls church, virginia, over the potomac river from the capitol. what else can you tell us about the mosque and the people there and their reaction. reporter: well, this is one of the most widely attended mosques anywhere in the united states of america and they see an average of 3,000 worships here on friday prayer day.
in fact, this afternoon and this morning it was packed with a lot of parking problems in the neighborhood on friday prayer days. the mosque has not issued an official statement on camera, their public relations spokesman is known to the media and because of the frequent television appearances he did not appear on camera today but they provided a written statement reading in part: however, after al-aliwalki s departure in 2002 he was arrested by yemen authorities and allegedly tortured. it was then that al-aliwalki began preaching violence. a clear distinction between anything here and al-aliwalki s views. but, worshipers here have been speaking freely to the media as they come in for services and leave. here is a little sample of what we heard. he is now with the almighty creator. he will be held accountable for everything he said and
