The Hamble Lifeboat needs to raise £8,000 to replace vital tools. However, 2021 has reportedly been the busiest year to date for Hamble Lifeboat which has attended 77 coastguard incidents in the Solent so far. This is an increase of over 25 per cent on the number of incidents this time last year. The current in-service boat ‘John and Violet Hurrell’ is in need of its annual maintenance. Its replacement - the Harry Childs - now needs new chart plotters which cost £8,000 before it can return to the water. The service is a volunteer organisation, formed by locals in 1968 in response to a number of tragedies on and around the River Hamble.
