Government troops thwarted a possible bombing plot by the Abu Sayyaf after recovering explosive materials in Barangay Campug, Albarka Municipality in Basilan Province Friday morning.
Intelligence operatives conducted a special operation which resulted in the recovery of four explosive devices, said Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr., Western MIndanao Command chief.
“The recovered items include two IEDs, filled with Ammonium Nitrate/Fuel Oil (ANFO) placed in two 1kg can containers; one IED filled with ANFO placed in a 900 grams container; one IED filled with ANFO placed in 500 grams container; one 9-volt battery; one pressure-type switch; one improvised blasting cap; twenty pieces projectiles; three feet detonating cords; and one 40mm High Explosive cartridge; and one 40mm practice grenade round,” said Brig. Gen. Domingo Gobway, Commander of the Joint Task Force Basilan.
