Covid-19 infectee illegally entering Vietnam faces criminal charges

Vinh Long police have launched a criminal investigation against a man who tested positive for the novel coronavirus after illegally entering Vietnam.
Le Thuc Tri, 33, is being investigated for spreading dangerous infectious diseases in humans, Colonel Huynh Thanh Mong, deputy chief police officer of the southern province, told the press Tuesday.
Under Vietnamese law, a person can be criminally charged if he/she carries dangerous pathogens capable of infecting humans into the country, a crime punishable by up to 12 years in jail under Vietnam s Penal Code.

A man from Vinh Long Province, who illegally entered Vietnam and was diagnosed with Covid-19, reportedly paid VND50 million ($2,155) to a people smuggling gang to return home.
The 32-year-old, one of six people who illegally entered from Cambodia through An Giang Province on December 24, tested positive for the coronavirus two days later, but had been anxious and worried the gang would hurt his family if he revealed its operations to local authorities, his mother Tran Thi Hang said via phone from a quarantine facility in Mang Thit District.

Four apartment blocks in Saigon’s District 5 were locked down after a man in the area tested positive for the novel coronavirus Sunday.
Hundreds of police officers and militia were dispatched Monday noon to barricade four blocks with 72 apartments on Su Van Hanh Street. All residents have been advised against going out.

A man in the Mekong Delta s Vinh Long Province has tested positive for the novel coronavirus after illegally entering Vietnam, passing through several localities including HCMC.
Le Thuc Tri, 32, was quarantined at Vinh Long Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases Hospital on Thursday without exhibiting typical Covid-19 symptoms like fever, coughing or breathing difficulties, the Vinh Long Department of Health said.
