Rolex Capri Sailing Week

The westerly breeze blowing at 14 to 16 knots on the starting line allowed the fastest boat to complete the course in just over two hours and 30 minutes. After today s start off Capri, the maxi yachts rounded an offset mark before turning for the second mark off Punta Campanella, on the mainland, and proceeding to round the island clockwise before passing Punta Campanella for a second time and heading for the finish line off Capri s Marina Grande. The racers were particularly appreciative of the excellent course management under the watchful eye of the President of the Race Committee, Alfredo Ricci.

Maxi Yacht Capri Trophy day 2 © ROLEX / Studio Borlenghi Magnificent weather conditions graced the waters of Capri for the second day of racing in the Maxi Yacht Capri Trophy. At 11am the Race Committee sounded the starting signal for a race of approximately 30 miles on a route that took the fleet from Capri to a mark off Sorrento and past Punta Campanella, before rounding the island counterclockwise. A breeze of 14 to 16 knots from the west accompanied the fleet on a fairly choppy sea. Immediately after the start, Cippa Lippa X and Anywave took the lead for a match race that would last right to the finish line - which the two crossed just seconds apart. It was Cippa Lippa X, Guido Paolo Gamucci s Mylius 60 CK, that clinched line honours, but had to wait for the calculation of the results in compensated time to confirm their place in the rankings.
