A court in France has heard that 17 Vietnamese migrants were lucky to be alive and might not have survived if a local truck driver had not been stopped by customs.
Bernard Vincent Meegan from Inniskeen, Co. Monaghan but also with an address in Culloville, Co. Armagh was this week jailed for two years, was banned from entering France for three years after his release and was fined €2,500.
According to the Sunday World, the 54 year old was arrested at Coquelles near Calais on February 10th after customs officials searched his truck and found the stowaways in the trailer with sleeping bags.
