AFTER House Speaker Halson Moultrie called for a dragnet operation to remove illegal firearms from the streets, National Security Minister Marvin Dames said while he supports the message, there also needs to be more community support to help reduce crime.
“We have far too many illegal weapons on our streets but gun control is yeah, we definitely need it. But you know the people brandishing those weapons are our kids for the most part.
“And so, we can say that we need gun control and we do and I support what the Speaker is saying but we also need to live up to our responsibility as parents as community members.”

AFTER a recent spate of murders in the capital, Nassau Village MP Halson Moultrie is calling on the police force to conduct “a dragnet operation” to get illegal firearms off the streets.
Speaking to reporters yesterday, the House of Assembly Speaker said more needs to be done to address the gang culture that seems to be plaguing the country.
“It’s easy to pick up a gun and to take someone’s life or to cause grievous bodily harm when you cannot rationalise a decision and come back the following day to bring a resolution,” Mr Moultrie said.

THE sister of a man who was shot dead in Nassau Village on Tuesday says the family is struggling to come to grips with his death, insisting he was not a “gang-banger”.
According to initial police reports, Vincent Knowles Jr, 26, was fatally wounded during a drive-by shooting as he was walking on Forbes Street around 8.30pm.
The victim’s sister, Cassandra Knowles, said this is another blow for her family which is still grieving the death of their mother.
“I just (lost) my mummy two years ago,” she told this newspaper. “It feels like the bandage on me just ripped open and they just juck a knife in it and just drag it down.”
