At the height of his dominance in the Goodyear 400 on Sunday at Darlington Raceway, Martin Truex Jr. had established over a 12 second lead near the end of the second stage.
It was a fait accompli that Truex would complete the clean sweep, uncontested.
Even on an afternoon where everyone was suffering from a lack of grip with the 750 horsepower, low downforce competition package, Truex had the best driving car and could do whatever he needed the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 19 to do.
With 40 laps to go, Truex had again extended his lead to almost five seconds over Kyle Larson and was on pace for another 10 second advantage by the end of the race but not so fast.
