A new effort in Monroe County is aimed at increasing vaccine awareness, equity, and access to those living in some of the city s most impacted areas.
Mayor Lovely Warren and County Executive Adam Bello announced a new neighborhood-based COVID-19 vaccination initiative Saturday at the Trenton and Pamela Jackson R-Center on North Clinton Avenue.

Rochester responds to RPD pepper-spraying 9-year-old girl

On Sunday, a nine year old girl experiencing a mental health crisis was handcuffed and pepper-sprayed by police officers.
Two graphic body camera videos were released showing Rochester Police Department (RPD) officers, called by the girl’s mother, detaining the girl who cried for her father.
This incident took place on Harris Street on Friday, Jan. 29 after the child’s mother told police that her daughter was intent on harming herself and others. Hundreds of people scattered chaotically in the early-morning darkness. Trying to escape a volley of gunfire, the young people gathered for a backyard party dispersed in countless different directions.
Ultimately, two 19-year-old Rochester residents were killed, 14 more were struck by gunfire, and police were left to sift through a massive and confusing scene. As they tried to get people to safety, they also had to gather others for interviews. What happened just after 1 a.m. on Sept. 19 in the 200 block of Pennsylvania Avenue is still under investigation. Police haven t made any arrests in the largest shooting in recent memory.
