Megan Murray, a local Mumbai talent, now based and performing in the U.S., is a singer-songwriter who performed a short but emphatic set of her own songs at Lollapalooza India in Mumbai.
What would Festival du Bois be without an appearance by Frenchie the Clown?
The annual celebration of all things French-Canadian but especially music and those Maillardville frog hats once again plays host to Joey Esperance and the character he’s been bringing to the festival for “at least 25 years,” by the local actor’s estimation.
For this year’s Festival du Bois, Esperance filmed himself as Frenchie reading, in both French and English, the 2020 children’s book Be You! by Peter H. Reynolds.
“I created a little area in my apartment, and I pretend I’m in Paris ‘cos that’s where I’m supposed to live,” Esperance says. “It’s a way for Frenchie to be there. And for the kids who enjoy Frenchie to have a little bit of time with him.”

Missy D remembers well the day her love affair with hip-hop started.
She was an 11-year-old schoolkid in Zimbabwe, and her class was preparing for the year-end talent show. But they were learning to play the recorder, which isn t the most thrilling instrument in the world. We pretty much sucked, recalls the 29-year-old rapper on the line from her East Van home, and we were all complaining to our music teacher, Hey, you should be teaching us music that s relevant to us. Hip-hop was a big thing at the time, and he somehow changed the curriculum for the next three months in preparation for that big talent show and was like, Okay, you guys wanna study hip-hop, so we re gonna study the history of hip-hop, from deejays to dancing to instrumentals to rapping.
