running, we could see the license plate. the police, obviously, knew, tracked down that license plate to a ford f-150 that was supposedly being repaired in a car lot out in connecticut, in stratford, connecticut. i went there today, no signs of life. it really looked like a junkyard, but what police are telling us, what law enforcement sources are telling us is that plate was removed from that f-150 and placed on this nissan pathfind pathfinder, potentially a deliberate attempt to mask who was registered to this vehicle as it drove into manhattan. so that s one of the clues they re working on. and, of course, you had susan candiotti reporting earlier tonight that the vin numbers, that vehicle registration number, that is actually physically on the car, is registered in the tristate area. they know who the car belongs to, but they re keeping quiet on exactly who that person is right now. so, drew, by all accounts, everyone is saying, oh, the new
over manhattan and at least get a jump start. are they anywhere in getting to where is the vehicle and where it belongs? my gut reaction is they probably know all of that. they probably have the vin number. you can t scrub a vin number from a car. itis gotten many terrorists caught in the past. timothy mcveigh. this vehicle would have vin numbers in other locations other than the dash board. my guess is the fact they know the vin number, they know the car came from the tri-state area. they probably know to whom the car was registered to. the question is, was that person involved? raymond kelly said the car was not stolen. you have to at least assume the

once they know where this vehicle came from, they re going to be able to start tracking this down. obviously, if it was stolen that s going to make it a little more difficult, but at least they ll figure out where it was stolen from. if it s not a stolen vehicle, it will lead to the perpetrators, who apparently were trying to hide some of the vin numbers, but there are many vin numbers on a vehicle, and they have identified some of them and that s going to bring them back. that combined with partial prints, partial photos, that s the main lead they re going to be following. yeah. and the type of bomb that this was, what does your gut tell you, michael? do you think this is something as having been claimed by an al qaeda branchoff group from pakistan? is this likely the result of their handiwork or more a lone wolf? it could be. it could be. i m a little suspicious of this taliban claim. we ll have to see if they have any knowledge of this that would indicate maybe they did have som
more sophisticated than joe blow citizen? who may, or may into the have stided to set off a bomb here? if it s sophisticated it s going make it more difficult for law enforcement. and for instance, the vehicle itself not only is the plate or tag itself may not belong to a vehicle, but there is something called vin numbers in this country. this numbers could have been scaled down. it s according to how sophisticated. law enforcement, i can assure you will be able to back track on that vehicle. or at that scene at times square. making it easier in light of the fact it did not detonate.
