Extreme cold claims 10 lives in Lithuania

Two people were reported to have frozen to death in Lithuania between Monday and Tuesday morning, as nighttime temperatures dipped below -20C. Eight more people died of extreme cold over the weekend.
The two victims were discovered on Monday and one more report was received on Tuesday morning, according to the Emergency Centre s (BPC) spokeswoman Vilma Juozevičienė.
One victim was a homeless man in Jonava District, central Lithuania. Another man was discovered frozen to death in a field in Ukmergė District, also central Lithuania. The 69-year-old is believed to have gotten lost on his way home.
