Notified containment zones go up to 451, says Collector

The district administration has increased the number of notified containment zones in Puducherry region to 451 and constituted measures to reach assistance to home isolation patients and to curb movement of people in these areas. This represents a marked increase from the 266 micro containment zones in the region as of May 9.
District Collector Purva Garg told a press conference that so far 159 containment zones had been declared in Puducherry taluk, 156 containment zones in Oulgaret taluk, 90 in Villianur taluk and 46 in Bahour taluk.
Officials have been appointed to monitor the containment zones. The flying squads constituted by the Revenue Department apart from the beat police are inspecting the containment zone on a regular basis.

Puducherry recorded its highest single-day tally of COVID-19 deaths on Sunday with 26 fatalities, even as the Union Territory saw 1,633 new cases.
Puducherry reported 22 deaths, Karaikal two and Yanam and Mahe one each. The patients, including 13 women, were in the 41-84 age range. Twelve of them had no comorbidities.
The region-wise cumulative toll is 790 in Puducherry, 99 in Karaikal, 60 in Yanam and 16 in Mahe. The new cases, which were confirmed from 9,022 tests, included 1,260 in Puducherry, 197 in Karaikal, 147 in Yanam and 29 in Mahe. The test positivity rate was 18%, the case fatality rate 1.35% and the recovery rate 79.08%.

Officials of the Civil Supplies CID on Wednesday night arrested a doctor and a pharmacist for attempting to sell the drug Remdesivir in black market.
The names of the arrested were given as M. Vibhavdevar, 32, a doctor hailing from Villianur near Puducherry and D. Muthuraman, 22, a pharmacist from Tindivanam. The two were handed over to the Villupuram taluk police.
The police seized five vials of Remdesivir from them.
The police said that Vibhavdevar ran a private hospital at Nattarmangalam near Gingee while Muthuraman worked in a private health firm in Villupuram.
A team led by inspector Kalpana mounted surveillance near the Central bus stand in Villupuram, following a tip-off.
