Illinois projected shipment of Pfizer vaccines likely will be cut in half this month, Gov. JB Pritzker said Wednesday.
The governor said federal officials did not give a reason for the shortfall. The notification came a day after some health care workers received the state s first coronavirus vaccines and on the same day initial doses were given in Springfield.
The development does not affect vaccine shipments that arrived this week at the Strategic National Stockpile as part of the state s 109,000 doses, Pritzker said. Shipments to regional destinations across the state remained on schedule.
Pritzker said federal authorities were expecting to ship out more than 8 million doses next week, but that has been reduced to 4.3 million doses nationwide.
