HOMEWOOD, IL The Village of Homewood sent an email alert to residents, letting them know there is potential for civil unrest in town, due to the trial of Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin. While we hope that circumstances surrounding these issues will not lead to unrest, it may put our community in harm s way. However, if the need arises, we are developing detailed plans to keep residents and businesses safe. Please note, these are just precautionary measures. We will do our best to keep you informed.
If there is unrest in the region, we will close or limit access to various roadways, if necessary, just as we did in the summer of 2020. Many surrounding communities are planning to do the same. Recognizing that this can be an inconvenience, please be assured that your safety is our number one concern.

The board will consider approvals for the rezoning at the next meeting, taking place on Tuesday. (Michelle Yates)
HOMEWOOD, IL The Planning and Zoning Commission for the Village of Homewood voted unanimously against rezoning the former Calumet Country Club on Thursday. The developers Diversified Partners are looking to flip the former golf course into an industrial park, and residents who attended numerous meetings protesting the development, are now optimistic.
The property, located at the corner of Dixie Highway and 175th Street, is being considered for an industrial park development, which many residents of Homewood and nearby towns are not in favor of. After five planning and zoning meetings, officials voted to recommend the village board votes against it as well. Now, candidates for office in nearby towns and other organizations are speaking out on the matter.
