Caledonia gallery highlighting local artists’ work COURTESY OF ROCHESTER ART CLUB © PHOTO PROVIDED The Rochester Art Club 2021 Signature Member Art Exhibition is on display at the Village Gallery in Caledonia. The Village Gallery, 3119 Main St., Caledonia, is hosting the Rochester Art Club 2021 Signature Member Art Exhibition through May 1.  The annual exhibition is a juried show open to Rochester Art Club member artists who gained Signature status through a review of their work by a jury of their club’s most senior members, or by being juried into three all-member shows.  This year’s display highlights a wide variety of subject matter and styles by 32 artists. Out of 71 entries, 51 were accepted for the exhibit. Plein air painter Ken DeWaard, of Maine, served as juror.

Art conservator Eva Matysek SHARE Art conservator Eva Matysek in Poland, restoring murals The rejuvenating touch by Bondo Wyszpolski In 1929, two years after he’d designed the murals for Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, John Gabriel Beckman was commissioned by William Wrigley, Jr., to create the murals for the Avalon Theatre inside the Catalina Casino. The auditorium is spacious; it was built to accommodate nearly 1,200 patrons. In 1994, as part of an extensive restoration, which included reupholstering the seats, arts conservator Eva Matysek was hired to clean and restore the murals to their original condition. It took the Walteria resident a full year to complete the project.

April 08, 2021 - 7:30 AM A painting of a very popular North Okanagan dog has surprised the local art scene having been sold at auction for significantly more cash than anyone had thought it would. The painting by Robin Ledrew featured Cooper, an eight-year-old border collie from Lumby who has become a local fixture. Cooper became popular a year or so ago after he regularly appeared on social media in front of Lumby landmarks with the tagline, Where s Cooper? Ledrew s painting There s Cooper! was put up for auction at her exhibit at The Village Gallery in Lumby. While the rest of Ledrew s work hanging in the gallery was priced individually, the painting of Cooper was put up for auction with the proceeds going to the Monashee Community Co-op.
