Metro police it happened near the intersection of Spring Mountain and decatur around 1130. Witnesses told police an infinity hit the back end of a bmw as it was pulling into spring pulling into Spring Mountain. 51 year old ki wyung lee who was not wearing a seat belt was thrown from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another passenger were taken to umc with nonlife threatening injuries. The driver of the infinity was also taken to umc. Police have not said who was at fault or if any charges will be filed. This is the 118th road fatality in metros jurisdiction. Officer Larry Hadfield when we have Critical Infrastructure go down we have contingency plans in place where well send employees that work at our center to the other dispact centers in the valley to receive those calls. Metro alone gets about three thousand calls a day on average. And were told eight metro dispatchers were deployed. Metro says no matter what someone will answer when you call and help will be on the way. Other centers in town say this doesnt happen often. But they train for this just in case. After the Communications Center started experiencing problems with 911 and 311 calls around 3 30 this afternoon. After that a notice went out from the department. Saying again, there could be a delay for 911 calls. And asking the public not to call 31 1. Because officers would only be responding to true emergencies. Metro was routing calls to North Las Vegas and henderson. And the Department Says metro employees were there to deal with those calls.
