Roman-style pizza a focus at new Hampstead restaurant

For more than a year, they ve worked with a partner and an Italian-made oven to perfect the recipes at the restaurant.  The BBQ chicken version, as well as one with prosciutto, garlic oil, fresh and shredded mozzarella, caramelized onions and arugula are already popular. The menu also features quick eats and salads, and nine signature pinsas (including a vegan option) available in small or large sizes. SAMUEL SHORES FORREST 1936-2021 – Gazette Journal

Bo and Sam Forrest Ladies, you’ve missed your chance. Sam Forrest sailed away quietly on May 5, 2021 after a sudden hurricane of ill health. His final, but long-term, wish was “to have just one more romance.” Alas, that was not to be. Samuel Shores Forrest, like his bold, finely crafted furniture, was one of a kind. Born in Mathews, Va., on Jan. 20, 1936, in the depths of the Great Depression, to Lovie Corrine Clinard and Dennis Dryden Forrest, he was steeped in a tradition of individuality and self-sufficiency. After high school in Mathews, Sam joined the U.S. Navy, then attended Richmond Professional Institute (RPI), the forerunner to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Now, a leading public arts university, its identity was cemented in the 1950s and ’60s, when Sam was an integral part of it. He majored in Social Work, served as a parole officer, then returned to study art, where he developed his obsession with furniture design.

The Day - Village Café in Niantic offers mighty fine sandwiches, breakfast wraps and more

Village Café, which opened in mid-2020 is a small, hole-in-the-wall place but it shouldn’t be overlooked. During the winter, even on chilly days, I would see customers swaddled in jackets sitting at the tables lined along the outside walls of the café. The big heaters set up near the tables obviously shed warmth, but I figured the food must be enough of a lure to draw folks in, even in the cold. (It should be noted that, as of now, the place only offers take-out and outdoor seating. The interior is relatively small and basic, but here’s hoping the pandemic eases enough for us to dine in there this coming winter.)
