SRINAGAR: Eleven days after being shot by Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists, Akash Mehra, the 25-year-old scion of Srinagar’s landmark Krishna Vaishno Dhaba, succumbed to his injuries at SMHS Hospital on Sunday morning. Doctors said Akash earlier underwent surgery and was put on ventilator some days ago.
On February 17 evening, one in a group of three Lashkar ultras had shot Akash at the Dalgate eatery owned by his father Ramesh Kumar Mehra, leaving him with critical chest and abdominal injuries. Soon after, the little-known Muslim Janbaz Force which the South Asia Terrorism Portal lists as a Pakistani outfit owned responsibility for the strike in a statement, claiming it was in retaliation to “outsiders” being allowed to settle in J&K under the new domicile rules.
