The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold a meeting this week on the operations of the Cook plant in Bridgman. The NRC’s Viktoria Mitlyng tells WSJM News these meetings are held each year at all nuclear power plants.
“We usually come out to the area that’s near the plant to make sure that we can interact with the community and have our resident inspectors there so people can see the folks who are protecting nuclear safety,” Mitlyng said.
The NRC will give a presentation on Cook plant operations in 2020 and part of 2021, and then there will be a Q&A period. Mitlyng says the Cook plant operated safely last year.
There will be a virtual meeting Thursday to discuss the performance of the Palisades nuclear power plant in 2020. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Viktoria Mitlyng tells WSJM News the NRC and plant staff will give a report on plant inspections and operations.
“You will be hearing from the resident inspectors who work at the plant every day and our staff at the NRC about how the plant did last year, and also be able to ask questions about how the plant has done in 2021,” Mitlyng said.
Mitlyng says Palisades operated safely in 2020. At the end of the year, all inspection findings and performance indicators were of very low safety significance, or green. The plant’s annual assessment letter can be found on the NRC’s website. The virtual meeting to discuss more will be at 6 p.m. You can attend by following this link.
