VIJAYAWADA: Faulty road engineering, bad designs and lack of signage boards to restrict speed limit on various roads are the major reasons for the rise in the number of road accidents in Krishna district, as per a study conducted by Transport department officials and road safety experts on NHs and state highways passing through the district.
As per the information provided by department, a total of 1,951 people were killed in road accidents across Krishna in the last three years (since 2018). As many as 1,380 road accidents were reported and 2,422 injured in 2018. About 2,458 accidents occurred during 2019. Of these, 702 persons lost their lives and 2,704 were injured. Last year, the district reported 1,846 accidents claiming the lives of 570 people and inuring 1,846.

Former Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu and his son and former Minister Nara Lokesh have been booked for allegedly posting comments and photographs against the YSRCP candidate for the Tirupati byelection M. Gurumurthy.
Bapatla MP Nandigam Suresh, Vemuru MLA Meruga Nagarjuna and Pamarru MLA Kaile Anil Kumar met Director General of Police (DGP) D. Gautam Sawang a couple of days ago, and lodged a complaint against Mr. Naidu and Mr. Lokesh.
A total of 9,154 cases registered in 2020, says Commissioner of Police
As many as 9,154 cases were reported in the limits of the Vijayawada Police Commissionerate in 2020, a 12.05 % drop when compared to the previous year, according to Police Commissioner B. Srinivasulu.
Briefing this to the media here on Sunday, the Police Commissioner said 23 murders, 37 attempt to murder, 32 robbery, 197 house burglaries, 392 cheating, 57 sexual assault (rape) and 12 kidnap cases were registered this year. Of the total 9,154 cases, 1,080 were booked under special and local laws, he said.
The percentage of property crime cases detected was 69.7 this year, which was 75.16 in 2019. In all, 831 cases of crime against women were registered in 2020, which were 944 in the previous year.
