Long Waits, a self-proclaimed “modest jazz club,” is the culmination of many dreams that merged and shifted before finally giving Hanoi a modern yet quaint jazz experience.
"In the early 2000s, the market was experiencing an exodus of practitioners due to digitalization, it was difficult to retain customers otherwise. I didn t want my craft to be forgotten, so I started everything all over,” Nguyễn Hoài Bảo told me on a visit to his studio.Bảo, a millennial born in 1986, is one of the few traditional sign painters who is still practicing his craft in Saigon.
Twice a week, the Soul Waackers come together for a practice and freestyle session. They embrace their most comfortable self, whether that means dancing in socks or rocking 11-centimeter platform heels.
