The Medal of Honor is the highest tribute the American military can give to armed forces personnel and national guardsmen who distinguish themselves “conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty.” The recipients’ actions must occur while fighting enemies of the United States and there must be two sworn eyewitnesses to their heroism.
