Hungary Embraces China’s Belt & Road, Undermining Efforts to Curtail Human Rights Abuses

As the free world unites to condemn and penalize the human rights violations and aggressive expansion of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), one European country is moving against the tide.
Hungary has demonstrated a firm pro-CCP stance in a series of recent events, after the European Union, the United States, the UK, and Canada announced sanctions against China over the genocide of Uyghur Muslims on March 22. The Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto accused the sanctions of being “pointless, self-aggrandizing, and harmful.” Of the 27 EU members, Hungary was the only country that voted against the sanctions.
DAYTONA BEACH One of the world’s leading hotel management companies has been hired to take over operation of The Plaza Resort & Spa by the hotel’s new owner, Los Angeles-based Vienna Capital.
Based in Plano, Texas, industry giant Aimbridge Hospitality boasts a portfolio of more than 1,500 branded and independent properties in 49 states and 22 countries. Since launching with just eight properties in 2003, Aimbridge has built its reputation on an ability to turn around under-performing hotels, according to industry experts.
Aimbridge executives have been at The Plaza this week for a series of meetings with the hotel’s leadership and staff, said Duane Winjum, the hotel’s general manager. Aimbridge will officially take over operation of the hotel on April 12, said Winjum, who started as general manager in January and will remain in that post.
DAYTONA BEACH A look ahead at ways to revitalize the beachside Seabreeze Boulevard business district will be the focus of an upcoming brainstorming session for merchants, the hospitality industry and city leaders at The Plaza Resort & Spa.
After expressing an interest in working with merchants and city officials to uplift the core beachside neighborhood along Seabreeze and State Road A1A, the hotel’s new ownership this week released an email announcement promoting the event on March 19 at the hotel.
“We are inviting business owners and property owners of Seabreeze Boulevard, along with community leaders and elected leadership,” said Duane Winjum, the hotel’s general manager. “We are also inviting the media to be present, as well.”
