unturned as it considers the real responsibility of deferring the disgraced expresident or his allies for criminal prosecution for their roles in the insurrection. the january 6th select committee is reportedly examining what donald trump did and what he did not do as the mob he incited stormed the u.s. capitol, endangering the lives of members of congress as wells as his own vice president. from the washington post, committee chairman bennie thompson said in an interview that of particular interest is why it took so long for him to call on his supporters to stand down. an an area of inquiry that includes obtaining several versions of a video trump reported before finally releasing a message 147 minutes after he first told supporters to march on the capitol. quote, it appears he tried to do a taping several times but wouldn t say the right thing. thompson said. basing his statement on information the panel has gleaned from interviews with witnesses as well as media

things back together? it looks like it, yes. got bags of pieces of documents and or something like that. i don t know all the details. but, you know, it s not the way you re supposed to act, but small surprise. you know, the former president acted in many ways that were not the way presidents are required to act. and quickly, before we go. there was talk a couple weeks ago of potential outtakes of that video trump taped january 6th. any update on that? do outtakes exist or ruled out they don t exist? i can t give you an update on that yet but i will say that volumes of materials continue to flow in to the committee from the archives and it s very important. it s a lot of stuff. we did ask that additional staff be put on the job, and i think the archives have stepped up
