of the white house or the west wall of the congress or the capitol building, i mean, every time everybody says, it couldn t get any worse than this, yeah, it can. i mean, things could get a lot worse, particularly when bad things happen overseas. we tend to divide ourselves when we re comfortable. we tend to pull together, i mean, 9/11 being the perfect lost opportunity. i mean, quite frankly, if i think george w. bush had gone out and said, i want the american people to rally behind us and buy victory bonds, instead of go to the mall, not to pick on you, but that s what happened, okay? there was a wonderful opportunity to pull the country together, and you saw that in the enlistment rates in the armed forces of the united states. we re pulling apart today because we re comfortable. do we not appeal enough to what ari has phrased self-interest rightly understood ? do we appeal too much to the mall or the self-interest? i just want to say, i think we have to be honest about m
