the fact that eisenhower, nixon and ronald reagan would be too liberal for today s republican party, that s it is a very sad negotiation about what has happened in terms of the cannibalization of the right and of the republican party. i think the good news is, in a very ironic way for people in the middle and for democrats is this is a great opportunity to go out and energize the voters who really care about the country and who quite frankly their livelihoods are in danger, to go out and get them energized and engaged in politics. think about all the people who can vote, that don t vote that are registered to vote or not even registered and should register and go out and vote, and i believe that there is a time now for the critical mass, the great american center, to get involved and actually do something about this. i think we settled it. end where we started. the whig party is coming back. i want to thank michelle bere narcotic, victoria difrancesco soto, sean willentz.
job creators past few years? we re watching right now the interest of the tea party and the interest of the business community diverge. businesses terrified of a default, hates of idea of flirting with a default, which is what it did. in the tea party, well, it just didn t seem to care all that much. that leaves establishment figures stomach pd abofigure s stumped about what to do. i can t see how it can last. it feels like something is going to give, something is going to have to give and soon. and here to discuss this, we have msnbc contributor victoria difrancesco soto, fellow at ut, back at the table and shawn valencia at princeton university, still with us crystal ball from msnbc and political strategist michelle bernard. and will confess, if that monologue sounds familiar, i did do a version of that on the rachel maddow show the other day. i would like to get some smart people around to talk about
time person of the year. if it s got to be one person, chris christie for having the guts to not just look after new jersey, but, literally, hug a democratic president in the face of everything that he knew his party would reign down on his head. helped him, helped the president, helped new jersey. so despite the fact that you were going to give it to the ground candidate of the obl campaign, you cross parties and go to chris christie. it seemed like goodwill to all people. victoria, are you going to be as bipartisan as richard is? i m not. and i m going to roll it back. i think when president obl rolled out his contraception mandate, that was absolute genius. because what he did, he forsaw that republicans and the catholic church was going to come out against it. that, in turn, helped mobilize women and kick off that women s movement for the 2012 election. and, yet, he stepped back.
budget office said we can t score a speech. president obama refuses to put his proposal in writing. ron, they are avoiding the fact they don t want to deal with what they claim they want to deal with. structural and equality. structural problems in this deficit. ron, the reality is they have gotten what they asked for. the president said, i m for spending cuts. they said they wanted to negotiate with the president. the president showed up and said, here is what i m for. they say, we don t want that much. so everything that they have asked for, and even against his own political interests, by wait, with the base of my party and my fellow democrats, he challenged his own party to meet him at the table. he has tangen that leadership moment and when he did, you know what, it called their bluff. these guys, both sides, have a clans to do right. but they got to be willing it make the tough calls. right now you can write every budget. we got to go, victoria victoria, kiki, ron, do me
theatrics to patch up what has been very devicive and politically damaging for party? well, it doesn t matter either way. because right now whether they are in a fox hole or out of a fox hole their fortunes are tied together. the error that speaker boehner may have made politically is when he gave away his authority and power in this. he gave mr. cantor his power and it is hard it get your authority back in the same position on the same issue. that s gone. and so his future is now tied to eric cantor and he doesn t have a choice. victoria, they seem to be seriously fractured. but at the same time, they are going to have to do something rather quickly. do they have any options that i m talking about they, being the republicans, that can salvage whether wr they have represented to the public and
