Zambia has in the last 24 hours recorded a total of 1,029 new COVID-19 positive cases from the 11, 855 tests conducted, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 25, 236.
Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya says the country has further recorded a total of 18 deaths in the last 24 hours with 11 brought in dead (BID) and 7 being facility deaths.
Speaking during the routine COVID-19 update in Lusaka today, Dr Chilufya noted that Zambia’s coronavirus outbreak has been escalating at an alarming rate with the country recording the highest number of deaths and critical cases within the 24 hour period.
The Minister stated that the cases were identified through various surveillance platforms in the community, health facilities and at points of entry including five districts that stood top.

HEALTH Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya says Zambia has recorded a staggering 850 new COVID-19 cases and five deaths in the last 24 hours.
And Dr Chilufya has revealed that young people are now succumbing to the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Health Director of Infectious Diseases Professor Lloyd Mulenga said so far, various COVID mortalities were associated with high sugar levels, which had failed to be controlled.
Speaking during the COVID-19 update in Lusaka, Wednesday, Dr Chilufya announced that the pandemic had now reached alarming levels in the country, with skyrocketing new cases hitting an unprecedented 850 in the last 24 hours, with five deaths.

Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya said the country has started recording an increase in the number of cases as well as daily deaths from COVID-19, signifying an upsurge in the pandemic.
He said during a COVID-19 update briefing that a new variant similar to the one in South Africa has broken out in the country. We have seen clearly the pandemic returning with increased numbers. This clearly shows that the second wave is here. The call to action is for us to respond, he said.
