It took almost dying for Ukrainian-born Australian pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk to begin to live through his music.
A talent as internationally acclaimed as that of Roger Woodward or David Helfgott, Gavrylyuk moved to Sydney in 1998 as a 13-year-old piano prodigy on a scholarship with the Australian Institute Of Music. He took out citizenship in 2003, yet by 2006 had followed the path of many a promising antipodean musician, and was back in Europe.
Alexander Gavrylyuk, seen here at City Recital Hall on Friday, has learnt to let the emotion in the music âlead the wayâ during performance. Â
