Oakland all day, where the cleanup continues and where there was a new protest today with a decidedly different tone than the one last night. Reporter we are here in frank ogawa plaza, ground zero for last nights protest and also todays protest, focused on the message, not the mayhem. This afternoon, about 100 or so people showed up in front of city hall, using art to voice their opposition to police violence. Were making this with flowers and we have the names of individuals who have been killed by police. Reporter surrounding the plaza, dozens of Oakland Police officers watching the demonstration. Were here to facilitate that and make sure no outsiders come in, disrupt their message or freedom of speech. Yeah i feel lucky. Reporter police say shortly before 2 00 this afternoon, this black pickup truck drove straight into a wall at lower moreland high school. Eyewitness josh, says he watched the car accelerate with no sign of braking. I saw a black truck. I saw it rev its engine and smoke coming from it. I her it gun down the parking lot all the way down until iheard this gigantic whack. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck struck several water pipes causing flooding and cutting power to the high school school. Less a minute away from changing dans lifer. Ive already thanked god more than once. Reporter the work now is speedy repair. Not only patching that whole but fixing any flooding left over and restoring power after what happened in this accident.
