While their would-be state rivals enjoy some downtime over Christmas, Mackayâs crop of talented netballers are hard at work preparing for season 2021.
The first-ever Whitsunday Sharks Academy began phase one this week, with testing days on Saturday and Tuesday at Mackay Multisports Stadium.
The 50-strong group of netballers aged between 14-18 were put through their paces by Mackay company Integrated Bodies, taking baselines for strength, fitness, speed and agility.
Due to return to academy training in mid-January, the trialists have been sent home with personalised strength and conditioning programs.
The onus has been put back on the athletes to return fitter, faster and stronger in 2021 before the Sharks brains trust picks a squad to continue working with in the New Year.
