An Arizona man convicted of murder in the 1984 killing of an 8-year-old girl was put to death Wednesday in the state’s second execution since officials resumed carrying out the death penalty in May following a nearly eight-year hiatus.
2:28 p.m.Frank Atwood, 66, died by lethal injection at the state prison in Florence for his murder conviction in the killing of Vicki Lynne Hoskinson.The witnesses said Atwood thanked the priest “for coming today and shepherding me into the faith” and added: “I pray the Lord will have mercy on all of us and that the Lord will have mercy on me.”
In 1984, Atwood, kidnapped, raped and murdered 8-year-old Vicki Lynne Hoskinson before dumping her body in the desert northwest of Tucson, according to authorities.
