adrianne shropshire, susan del percio, online with chris hayes starts now. starts now good evening from new york, i m chris hayes, one of the most frightening trends in american politics in recent months has been the prioritization, across the country, of conservatives and republicans from state to state targeting lgbtq folks. it s one of the, if not the unifying policy priorities in the modern republican party 2023. it s especially pronounced at the state level. the american civil liberties union says it s tracking nearly 400 anti lgbtq bills across the country. tennessee, to name one state, in particular, is home to multiple examples of this particular noxious trend. there is a new law criminalizing many types of drag performance. is 12th night fond of? that will find out. a bill working its way through the legislature which would allow state clerks to refuse to officiate gay marriages if they so choose. but it s not just the states. we are seeing this disturbing trend of
considering bills that would make it easier for children to labor. as vice reports, i was bill would allow minors as young as 15 to serve alcohol identity, that seems like a great idea allow 14-year-old to work in industrial freezers and meet coolers, also doesn t seem like a great idea. ohio s bill would allow minors to work year-round until 9 pm. i don t know. by the way, did you know this was a thing republicans are, like, really dead set on bringing back child labor? this is the key point. and it can get drowned out because of how much space and energy the culture wars occupy. of, course those foundational questions about identity, about protecting the rights of vulnerable populations, there is a supremely important. we let the show tonight with them. in addition to that, in politics, there are also basic material interests at risk right now. and the republican position on so many of those issues, from child labor to abortion, are extremely unpopular. but they hope to use the
joins us live with the latest o this. great to be with you. we got a lot to talk about here. i m looking at the national weather service and we ve got ice storm warnings from little rock to memphis. this area through wednesday morning. this line has caused a number o problems. look at all these storm reports as they populate here. a lot of ice reports and roadways are getting iced and we ve been telling you not to drive for a couple of days. i m going to show you over the last two days the amount of precipitation we ve gotten with this particular line and other systems as well. as the rain comes up, to just 3 inches have fallen and that will likely refreeze overnight and cause problems for most of you further south. even as the line continues to move, that is what i am looking at. they ve got family this what i as i look at this, i will say that the ice storm warnings stretched to alabama. further south you are out of th warning range so central alabam is the spot, as will be most of
because it latches on and freezes to all the surfaces, whether it s the roads, your car, the power lines, the trees, anything, and so it s creating incredibly dangerous situation as temperatures stay below freezing. we got another round of this. it s going to be compounded over the next day or two. little rock in this as well, and you can see it s already moving into memphis. so that s another area we re going to be watching, and you can see just looking at the roads it doesn t look like much. it may catch you by surprise, but you are going to slide. there s no way you can drive over ice. it is just incredibly slippery, especially for those bridges and overpasses. we could see up to a half an inch of ice in those areas shaded in blue, about a quarter of an inch in the pink. you see all the ice reports of sleet and ice anywhere from texas to the ohio valley. so this is far-reaching. we have seen more than a quarter of an inch of ice across arkansas, missouri, texas, about a quarter of a
