Glasgow uni building nets local community millions in construction cash boost

MILLIONS have been generated for the West End community by the construction of a new building at Glasgow University, figures show. Research carried out on behalf of the higher education institution has found that for every £1 spent by the university on its new James McCune Smith Learning Hub, £1.87 has been put back into the community. This means that more than £45m has been put into the economy and the employment opportunities created are worth more than £11m. Prof. Frank Coton, Vice Principal Academic Planning & Technological Innovation at Glasgow University, said: “When we conceived the project, we envisaged a building that not only served the university community, but also added to the social fabric of our local community and the city.
