Lagos indigenes insist native must be LASU VC

The panel, chaired by a former VC of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Prof. Bamitale Omole, turned in three volumes of a report to the Governor 37 days after it was constituted to examine if the extant laws of the university and other relevant guidelines were followed in the process of appointing new VC. Daily Trust gathered that the panel in its report recommended a new selection process for the appointment of the VC. But the group, known as Ọmọ Eko Pataki (Genuine Lagos Indigenes), through its Trustee, Major General Tajudeen Olanrewaju rtd, insisted the next Vice-Chancellor must be an indigene of the state.

Getting a VC for Ibadan Varsity: The Ugly Politics, By Reuben Abati Who cares whether the VC is an Ibadan indigene or not? The Minister of Education must revisit this issue quickly. If he waits till the end of the tenure of the current Chairman of Council before the University gets a substantive Vice Chancellor, it would be correctly assumed that Abuja has imposed the politics of godfatherism on the country’s premier University.  The University’s alumni have also been too quiet. BY REUBEN ABATI Established in 1948 as a campus of the University College, London, somewhere around Eleiyele in Ibadan, the University of Ibadan as it later became known when it assumed an independent status in 1962, has the history of Nigeria, its greatness and challenges written into every grain of sand, every piece of grass, every sound in its chambers, the minutest echo in its premises so much that any encounter with the University of Ibadan is an encounter with a piece of history. Professor Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe: Our shared dream

Professor Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe: Our shared dream Ayobami Salami Before May 2017 when I was appointed the Pioneer Vice Chancellor, First Technical University, Ibadan, I only knew Professor Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe by his reputation, earned through his unassailable credentials. Shortly after my appointment, the then Governor of Oyo State and Visitor to the University, Senator Abiola Ajimobi (of the blessed memory), invited me for a meeting in his office to discuss my plans for the university. At the meeting were a few government officials, including the then Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Olalekan Alli. The governor then told me he was planning to appoint a substantive Pro-Chancellor for the university and he wanted my suggestion(s).
