JAMMU, Mar 8: Contrary to the expectations that the District Development Council (DDC) chairpersons will get rank of the Minister for effective functioning of the third tier of Panchayati Raj System which was put in place for first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, the Government today placed Chairpersons and Vice Chairpersons of the DDCs even below the MLAs and only at par with Divisional Commissioners/ IGPs and kept the DDC Members equal to the District Magistrates and Chairpersons of Block Development Councils (BDCs)/ president of Municipalities.

Jammu, Feb 13 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Provincial President Devender Singh Rana on Saturday assailed the BJP for allegedly boycotting the election process to District Development Councils in Kishtwar, Ramban and Rajouri, saying the obstructive politics is not only affront to electors, who participated in the democratic process braving odds but also an unpardonable assault on the sustenance and evolution of democracy.
“The BJP must come clear on its intent and motivation behind the boycott, as it has raised many questions in the public mind”, Mr Rana here told reporters.

SRINAGAR: Advocating 33 per cent reservation for women in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Apni Party (AP) president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Saturday said his party believes in real empowerment of women.
“Our party believes in real empowerment of women in Jammu and Kashmir. And that dream will be realized when we have a considerable number of women lawmakers in our Legislative Assembly,” Bukhari told reporters on the sideline of a function here today.
Asked about today’s elections to the posts of DDC Chairpersons and vice chairpersons in five districts of Baramulla, Bandipora, Rambhan, Kishtwar and Poonch, Bukhari described these polls as a ‘significant coincidence’.
