Mt. Vernon Rotary Club during their luncheon on Tuesday honored Detective Captain Vic Koontz. Koontz was presented with the Jack Overstreet Service Above Self Award. Koontz has been with the Mount Vernon Police Department for 25 years. He has served in patrol, general criminal investigations, narcotics investigations, and the High Risk Team. Koontz now oversees general criminal and narcotics investigations. Koontz has helped lead the Fraternal Order of Police's Night Out With Santa Cop and fund raise for the event for many years. Outside of law enforcement, he volunteers at his church and has helped others in many ways.
